Toilets campaign ends in failure

6

THE campaign to re-open the public toilets at Stockton Heath appears to have ended in failure.
Not only are the men’s and women’s toilets at the Forge shopping precinct to remain closed but the disabled toilets, which had remained in use, have now also been closed.
Chairman Coun Peter Walker told the parish council the borough council had decided the cost of re-opening the toilets was too high.
The door of the disabled toilet had broken and the borough had decided not to replace it.
A sign directing people to the toilets is also to be removed.
The parish council some time ago formed a working party to try to get replacement public toilets in the village. They won support from Appleton Parish Council. But their efforts were in vain.
Coun Stephen Taylor said: “We should have another meeting of the working party.
“Now that the building is useless, we should have it removed and put the land to some community use.”

  1. What an advert for Warrington and its neighbours:

. “The town with no toilets”.

WHERE in Stockton Heath is there a toilet that the public can use? I thought that toilets and proper parking facilities were essential for the survival of any shopping areas.

Is it any wonder that people prefer to shop elsewhere?

  2. “dodgy loitering” That’s the official reason…………but what’s the real one? If you care to check your facts and the local police records you will find there have been very few incidents in years. However, if ‘dodgy loitering’ is a problem do you close down all public facilities or do you deal with the problem? because if ‘dodgy loiterers’ are not caught they will ‘loiter’ elsewhere!! . It appears that the council’s priority is not public protection, merely cost cutting!!!!

  3. Well done WBC for closing the disabled toilets too now just to prove a point eh.

As far as I am aware there are no freely accessible disabled toilets in the village now.

    Is that allowed ???

I noticed the sign that the council had put up a few weeks ago (dated 26 Feb) stating that their reason for immediate?? closure was ‘due to repairs that were needed to make the premises servicable’….. WELL IF THEY HADN’T CLOSED IT UNNECESSARILY IN THE FIRST PLACE IT WOULDN’T BE IN SUCH A STATE OF DISREPAIR NOW WOULD IT !!!! Idiots !! PS as for ‘dodgy loitering’ I presume P Tengove is refering the councils money making parking enforcement officers who regulary loiter behind the toilet block having their ciggies whilst waiting to pounce on unsuspecting motorists who’s wheels touch a white line etc.. maybe some of that revenue could have been used to fund the re-opening of the village toilets !!!
