WARRINGTON’S Register Office has received high praise from the General Register Office for England and Wales, following a two-week inspection.
After the intensive, audit-style inspection, earlier this year, the service has been commended for dramatically modernising over the last two years.
The Register Office has developed and diversified the services it offers and new additions include naming ceremonies, vow renewals and civil funerals.
Superintendant registrar Jane Briscall said: “The Register Office affects everybody’s lives at sometime or another and it really is a very emotive job.
“We see everything here from marriages to deaths and civil ceremonies to baby naming ceremonies. No stone was left unturned during the inspection and I am very proud of my team and the way they have embraced change.”
The inspection results produced some small recommendations for improvements but concluded that overall Warrington Registration Service is currently operating daily “on the cusp of excellence”.
In the year April 2007 to April 2008. the Museum Street office registered 3,579 births and 2,285 deaths and carried out 233 civil weddings in hotels, etc. and 244 Registry Office weddings.
