AN international musician will return to his first school at Warrington tomorrow (Tuesday) – to officially open a new extension.
Concert pianist Leon McCawley, who originally lived at Croft, will perform the opening ceremony at the village’s St Lewis’ RC Primary School.
Leon regularly returns to the Warrington area to play charity concerts – giving local people an opportunity to hear him at a fraction of the cost they would have to pay to attend a major concert.
His visit home to open the school extension coincides with a local charity concert. On Thursday, he is appearing at Lowton where he will play works by works by Mozart, Chopin, Brahms and Schumann.
Money raised will go to Jacob’s Well, a charity that sends medical and humanitarian aid to Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa.
In May 2007 Leon held a similar concert and raised more than £2,000 to help poor villages in Ghana.
During
the past year Leon has been very busy and highlights include playing in
Philadelphia with the Philadelphia Orchestra, performing at the Mostly
Mozart Festival at the Barbican in London and a Christmas trip to Oman.
This spring, he will travel to Seoul, South Korea, for his debut
with the KBS Symphony. His wife Anna, who is South Korean, will join
him on the trip and take the opportunity to see her family.
Leon was born in Culcheth and was brought up in Croft.
