AN artist who spent her childhood wishing for rain so that she could stay indoors and paint, is planning an exhibition in Lymm.
Helen Parsley, who has worked as a professional artist for more than 20 years, and sees Lymm as a “special place” because of the number of village scenes she has been inspired to paint.
She also illustrates books and has worked for the BBC on “Last of the Summer Wine”.
She trained in illustration at Manchester University and soon earned a reputation for her work. She paints landscapes and cityscapes, including Paris and Venice, and is making her mark in the world of fine art.
Helen has held more than 70 exhibitions including Alexandra Palace, London and Urbis and G-Mex in Manchester. Her work will be on show at Lymm Parish Hall on Saturday March 28 from 10am to 5pm.
Sheffield-born Helen wanted to be an artist from childhood and used every spare minute to draw and paint. Now her childhood ambition has been realised.
She said: “For years I’ve had art directors telling me what to paint…now I can paint exactly what I want!”
Helen works mainly in acrylic paints onto canvas, using vibrant colours to their full potential. She gains her inspiration from people such as American artist Norman Rockwell and the French impressionists.
She said: “I feel so fortunate to be able to earn a living doing exactly what I love to do.”
