Poultry shed ruffles a few feathers

A HOUSEHOLDER who built a poultry shed on land opposite his home without planning consent has ruffled a few feathers.
Penketh Parish Council has objected to a retrospective application for permission to build the shed on land off Well

Lane, Penketh – and two neighbours have also raised concern.
Members of Warrington’s development control committee have decided to visit the site before deciding if the shed can stay in place.
Planning officers – who are recommending the proposal be approved – say while the shed is in a residential nature, it is screened by trees.
It is to be used for hobby purposes, rather than on a commercial basis.
Neighbours say the 30ft long, nine ft high building is too big. They say the site is unsightly, resembling a building site.
There are also concerns about tree felling that has taken place.
They say although the applicant has kept chickens on the site for some years without causing any complaint, geese were present recently and made a lot of noise.
There are also concerns that rare, imported birds may be kept on the site.
The applicant says he does not intend to import rare birds and will tidy up the site when construction work has been completed.
