Council holds on to Omega vision

TOWN Hall chiefs remain committed to the vision of a world-class business and technology park for Warrington’s giant Omega site.
This was confirmed by borough council leader Ian Marks, in response to a question from Labour leader Coun Terry O’Neill at the monthly meeting of the council.
Coun O’Neill said the original master plan and vision for Omega was that it would be the North West’s premier strategic site for world class business and technology development.
This would enable the town in the future to provide high quality, well paid jobs for the residents of Warrington.
But he asked whether the leader could confirm that the council was still committed to delivering this vision.
Coun Marks (pictured) said the council remained committed to the vision of Omega as a world-class site, for Warrington and for the region.
He added: “We are currently reviewing the master plan with the developers to ensure its continuing relevance in the changing economic circumstances and to achieve maximum regeneration benefit for the residents of Warrington.”
Concerns about parts of the Omega site being used for a giant prison or for a waste incinerator have sparked protests from residents in recent months.
But the council says it is opposed to any plan for a new prison in Warrington.
