PEOPLE in Warrington are being encouraged to continue recycling despite the “credit crunch” affecting the market for paper, plastic and other recyclable waste.
The borough council is committed to recycling and continues to provide services as normal – with community recycling centres and the blue bin scheme.
Officers report that demand for some recyclable materials has fallen as a consequence of the global economic slowdown. But they say demand does still exist and materials are still being recycled.
Coun Alan Litton, executive member for environment services (pictured) , said: “In Warrington recycling has been a great success story – we have collected over 3,700 tonnes of recyclables through the new blue bin recycling scheme since October. Recycling is more cost-effective than sending waste to landfill.
“We are proud of this achievement and would like to applaud our local residents for their recycling efforts. We are sure that we can all build on this success.”
He reminds Warrington people to use the blue and green bins for recyclable materials.
