A WARNING has been given that work carried out on Stockton Heath beauty spot Ackers Pit this year may result in more problems next summer.
Coun Stephen Taylor told Stockton Heath Parish Council that algae bloom was more likely to occur on the lake now the surrounding trees have been cut back.
Coun Celia Jordan said she thought the idea of doing the work was to get silt out of the lake and stop the problem of algae reappearing.
But Coun Taylor said the project had got rid of some silt, moved some around and brought some silt from the bottom to the surface.
“We have opened up the site and brought in more daylight and so could get more algae bloom. We need to be prepared for it,” he said.
But members said they thought Warrington Anglers had pumps that could be used to alleviate the problem.
Clerk Peter Briggs said a further £1,400 had recently been spent on work to the banks, as the increased water flow on the Ackers Lane side had led to erosion.
Over the previous two weeks the anglers had carried out work on removal or cutting back of about 50 trees on the site.
