Town honours the fallen

WARRINGTON today honoured the fallen in two World Wars and other conflicts by observing the Royal British Legion’s traditional two-minute silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Maroon rockets were fired from the roof of the Town Hall to mark the start and finish of the two-minute silence.
The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillors Graham and Elaine Welborn led a public tribute at Market Gate.
The Rector of Warrington, Canon Michael Findley and Methodist minister the Rev Stephen Kingsnorth led the prayers.
Representatives of the Royal British Legion, Cheshire Police, the Borough Council and others took part in the short service.
Attendance by members of the public was less than last year – possibly due to a cold, blustery wind.
But more than 100 people stood in silence at Market Gate and many people in other parts of the town centre also observed the silence.
