Local firm wins US deal

A WARRINGTON-based company run by two local women has been chosen as the only UK supplier of an American strapless bra specially designed for breast cancer sufferers.
Womanzone, on the Taylor Business Park at Culcheth is run by Marita Louis and Lynn Smith.
The business was originally established more than 14 years ago by Marita as a mail order service.
She had worked in the NHS for many years in a clinical capacity supporting women post-masectomy in the fitting of prosthetic breasts and specialist bras and through this realised there was a very limited choice of prosthetics, bras and swimwear.
Through her work in the NHS, Marita met Lynn, who had set up the prosthetic service at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Together, they identified a gap in the services available – and with help from the NatWest Bank, found ideal premises at Culcheth.
Now they offer an appointment based private service that can almost
be compared to arranging a fitting for a wedding dress.
There is a comfortable waiting area for friends and family, a spacious room to display the range of products and a dressing area.
The company employs it own machinists who can make bespoke items depending on individual choice.
Marita said: “We both had the desire to offer more than a
mail order service because the feedback we received was that ladies
wanted a personal, one to one service, but the challenge was finding
the right premises and ensuring that we continued to grow the business
at the right pace to ensure we could fulfil demand and offer the
excellent service that we strive to offer. When we found the premises
we knew our dream could be fulfilled.
” We both still work within the NHS and this helps us stay close to the latest breast care so we can fully support our ladies.
“The feedback about our new premises has been fantastic and it really does make a difference to be able to “try before you buy” and it gives us an opportunity to share our many years of experience with our customers. We were delighted to secure the contract to be the only supplier in the UK of the new strapless bra as it will make such a difference to our ladies’ lives. We are so grateful of the support we have received from NatWest and our exiting and new customers. Breast cancer is such a horrible disease and we are working in an environment that enables us to make a real difference helping to rebuild confidence and give further choice to sufferers. It is a pleasure to come to work.”
