Local project wins national award

A COMMUNITY project in Warrington has been honoured with only one of seven prestigious national awards for their outstanding contributions.
The Walton Lea Project, which is a successful horticultural employment project, specifically set up to employ people with learning disabilities, has received a Special Award for Innovation from the Civic Trust.
They scooped the prize for their mobile shop, which delivers own-grown produce such as honey, jams, chutney and eggs.
All the adults associated with the project are involved in planting, harvesting, loading the van and dealing with customers.
The project also runs Warrington’s Farmer’s Market on the second Sunday of every month.
Special Award for Innovation is designed to highlight the projects throughout the United Kingdom which have brought about outstanding benefits to both their site and their local community.
