MORE than 200 people attended a memorial service for murder victim Garry Newlove at Christ Church, Padgate.

The moving service was followed by a candlelit procession to the spot where Mr Newlove (pictured) was attacked by a gang of drunken thugs just a year ago.
During the service, Mr

Newlove’s widow, Helen read poignant letters from their three daughters, Zoe, 19, Danielle, 16 and Amy, 13.
Zoe, in her letter, said: “I get told time’s a great healer. I wish time could rewind itself so this person would see me graduate from university. I wish time would rewind so that he could walk me down the aisle. Accepting that he’s not coming back is the hardest thing ever.”
Danielle, in her letter, said: “My dad never saw my 16th birthday, he never got to see my in my prom dress.”
Amy said: “It hurts me to think what pain my dad went through on that night, but I think he feels more pain not to be with his family right now. He wasn’t just my father, he was my best friend.”

Mr Newlove, aged 47, died in hospital three days after suffering horrific injuries when he was punched and kicked outside his home at Padgate.
Three youths have been convicted of his murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Two have lodged appeals.
