Classic cars arrive in town

VISITORS to Warrington Market were surprised to see a fleet of classic cars drive into town.
It was the first car show of its kind in the town centre and the vehicles attracted a lot of attention from both adults and children.
Cars were supplied by North West Casual Classics and many older visitors saw similar cars to ones they had previously owned.
A 1958 double decker bus from the St Helens Bus Museum and a Jaguar Formula One car were the highlights of the display.
Some market traders set up outdoor stalls to add to the atmosphere.
A short documentary film was made on the day, headed by television presenter Mark Olly, known for the series “Lost Treasures” on Granada. It will be available to view on the television screens inside the market, or using the internet at www.warringtonmarket.co.uk
Coun Bob Barr, the borough council’s executive member for planning, regeneration and housing said: “We are working hard to put on scheduled events of interest throughout the year in the town centre. This show went down very well with shoppers, so much so that it is likely to become an annual event, growing in size each year.
“These events aim to attract new and regular shoppers to the area who will know what to look forward to. Events such as the car show, the continental market and the green market experience have all been successes and are in the plan for future years.”
North West Casual Classics is holding a similar show at Fiddlers Ferry on Sunday.
