New school plan given the all-clear

PLANNERS have given the go-ahead for a multi-million £ plan to re-develop a big Warrington high school despite objections from nearby residents.
The existing Culcheth High School will be almost completely demolished and replaced with a new, state-of-the-art school and multi-use all weather sports facilities which will be shared with the local community.
More than 20 residents lodged objections and Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council expressed concern at some aspects of the scheme. But Warrington’s development control committee gave the go-ahead.
New buildings will be sited towards the northern edge of the existing school site – further away from houses in Withington Avenue, with the object of minimising the impact on local residents.
A new access off Warrington Road will divert school buses away from Withington Avenue.
The residents’ main concerns were about the late night use of the floodlit synthetic multi-use sports pitch, but planners said conditions would be imposed to limit use of the pitch until 9pm, as at present..
Other objections were based on the appearance of the new building, road safety issues, noise and disturbance arising from the use of indoor leisure facilities and visual impact on the nearby Green Belt boundary.
Planners say the impact on the Green Belt will be acceptable because of the amount of open space within the proposed school site.
