A picture postcard town

SPRING flowers were blooming in the garden, the sky was blue and the start of the local cricket season was only a fortnight away – but it snowed!
The snow of Saturday night turned parts of Warrington into a picture postcard the following morning. Late risers may have missed it, but for those out-and-about early, it was a glorious sight.
Even in the town centre, where snow usually turns to slush within minutes, the absence of early morning shoppers or traffic, enabled it to last long enough for early bird photographers to capture it.
But the unseasonal weather also had its downside. A section of the M56 near Warrington was closed in both directions due to sheet ice which caused a number of collisions.
Our top picture was taken in Higher Lane, Lymm before 9am on Sunday while the lower picture shows Buttermarket Street, Warrington taking on almost a festive appearance
