Lengthy queues on M62 following car and lorry fires

SEVEN-mile queues of traffic were being reported on the M62 at Birchwood, Warrington, this afternoon, (Wed) following a car fire.

The incident involved a car on the hard shoulder of the M6 southbound entry slip at junction J21A from M62 Westbound.

National Highways estimate time To Clear The event is expected to clear between 18:30 and 18:45 on 6 December 2023
Return To Normal Normal traffic conditions are expected between 18:30 and 18:45.
Lane one, of four, was closed.

Earlier this afternoon at 14:41 fire engines from Northwich, Birchwood and Penketh attended the M62 near Houghton Green following reports of a lorry on fire (pictured above).

The fire involved a large articulated lorry. Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish it. The lorry was on a hard shoulder and well alight so the M62 westbound and slip road M6 northbound were closed while the incident was dealt with.
