DETECTIVES in Warrington have launched a murder investigation following the death of a local woman last night.

It follows an incident at approximately 10.20pm on Tuesday 10 April when police were called to an off licence on Marsh House Lane following concerns for a man.

This led officers to attend an address on St Elphins Close where a woman was found with injuries. The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance but sadly died.

Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson, of Cheshire Police’s Major Investigation Team, said: “At this stage the incident appears to be isolated and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened.

“A 54-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident and is assisting officers with their investigation.”

A formal identification of the woman has not yet taken place.

Local officers remain in the area to provide reassurance to the community. Anyone with any issues or concerns is urged to speak to an officer.
