Primary school to join academy trust

A WARRINGTON primary school has been given the go ahead to join one of the most inclusive educational academy trusts in the country.

Penketh South Primary will become an academy and join TCAT on April 1 after a consultation and approval from the Regional Schools Commissioner.

Headteacher Angela Grace said pupils would benefit from becoming part of the group in Warrington.

She said: “Our name will not change, our uniform will remain the same and we will continue to work with the local authority and schools who are not part of TCAT.

“However, working with the schools and the college who are in TCAT has already proved beneficial for Penketh South and this will continue.

“All of the heads, principals and governors share our ethos of wanting the best for children and we will continue to have a high level of autonomy so the majority of key decisions will still be made by our governors and staff.”

TCAT was set up last year and its members include Great Sankey Primary School, Priestley College, Beamont Collegiate Academy, Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School, Penketh High School and Bridgewater High School.

Among the benefits of becoming an academy trust will be a stronger negotiating position for all members when ordering and purchasing. Any savings will be put back into educational resources.

Ms Grace said that Penketh South CP School would continue to enhance the experiences its pupils enjoyed every day.

Existing admissions procedures will remain the same for Penketh South’s nursery and school.

“We are very excited about the future prospects for Penketh South and the opportunities that being in such a forward-thinking trust will provide us,” said Ms Grace
