Ice rink cancelled at Culcheth Christmas Market

PLANS to have an ice rink at Culcheth’s Christmas Market have been scuppered after the owner was badly injured in a car accident – but there will still be plenty of other attractions at the event this Saturday.

Paul Taylor, from Taylor Business Park, who were under-writing the cost of the ice rink explained: “We were contacted on Tuesday by the wife of the man who runs the ice rink company and was told that he’d been in a crash with a drunk driver.

“Unfortunately the poor man has been badly hurt and the van has been impounded as part of the investigation so there was no way they could have the ice rink here on Saturday. I’ve tried various other organisations but it’s just way too short notice now.

“Not quite as Christmassy as we’d hoped on this occasion but at least there’ll stillbe some good stuff going on there.<” added Paul. “In fact the whole village will still be filled with over forty stalls, loads of entertainment and lots of stuff for kids on the day. It’ll be a great opportunity to do your Christmas shopping and soak up a bit of Christmas cheer at the same time.

” There will still be plenty to do on the day, and the stall that we think is the most Christmassy will receive a £250 cash prize from the business park as well!

“With all of the positive comments we’ve had about the ice rink we will be booking one again for next year. There’s no doubt in my mind about that. The Business Park will be delighted to underwrite the cost of one again.

Paul added:”I’m really sorry that all the people that were looking forward to having a go on the ice rink can’t now, but we’ll make sure it has pride of place at the event next year. Unfortunately we have not been able to organise a replacement ride at short notice.”

The Christmas Market will be open from 10 am with the Christmas Lights switch on at 4.30pm.
