MP’s saddness at the plight of the homeless

WARRINGTON South MP Faisal Rashid has spoken of his sadness over the extremely difficult situations being faced by the homeless.
Mr Rashid was speaking after meeting with representatives of the housing charity Shelter in Westminster when they discuss housing and homelessness in Warrington South.
He said: “Shelter is a fantastic organisation that helps millions of people every year across the country who are struggling with poor housing and homelessness.”
The MP and the Shelter team discussed many issues including the rise of homelessness across the UK, despite significant policy intervention.
There was also discussion about the ever-increasing number of children who are facing Christmas homeless or in temporary accommodation, and the 118 families that are made homeless each day – as well as individuals who are sleeping rough and are especially vulnerable, and the impact of housing affordability on homelessness.
After the meeting, Mr Rashid said: “It was fantastic to meet with Shelter this week, and I am very grateful that they took the time to come and share their insight with me on the situation in Warrington South, and across the country.
“It is incredibly saddening to be reminded of the extremely difficult situations many people are facing in Warrington and across the North West, especially in the run up to Christmas, as people struggle to meet living costs and are forced into extremely vulnerable positions without a
roof over their heads.
“I pledge, along with my Labour colleagues, to continue to tackle homelessness and the issues around it, including the level of people in temporary accommodation, the deficiency of the Local Housing Allowance and the poor conditions that many are facing in the private rental sector.
“Everyone deserves a safe place to live and I will continue to work with brilliant groups like Shelter and fight for my constituents on this issue.”
