Police appeal following death of young goats

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following the death of three goats at the children’s zoo in Walton Hall Gardens – reported by Warrington-Worldwide yesterday.

The deaths of the 12-month-old goats followed a break-in at the zoo sometime between 8pm and 10pm on Sunday. Police believe the offenders climbed a fence to get into the gardens.

A rhododendron bush was thrown into the goats’ enclosure by the offenders, which some of the goats ate. This caused two of the animals to die and several  others became seriously ill. A third goat had to be put down later.

Inspector Neil Drum said: “It’s very sad to see that the mindless actions of the offenders who gained entry to the zoo while it was closed to the public has resulted in serious illness and  deaths of these harmless animals. We would appeal to the conscience of anyone who knows who the culprits are, please contact police so that we can find those responsible.”

Anyone with information should contact Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 544 of 24 July 2017.

Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
