VANDALS are being blamed for a fire at a nature reserve near Warrington.
The blaze involved a viewing platform on the Risley Moss reserve. A fire crew from Birchwood extinguished it using a ose reel jet.

A local wildlife enthusiast said: “This is one of the finest viewing platforms in the country, with fantastic views across the reserve, which is a site of special scientific interest. This was a terribly, cowardly act.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 or, anonymously on the Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555 111.

  1. I’ve just seen the photos from the Cheshire Fire Brigade – this fire has destroyed an ionic hive – one of the best in the country.

  2. The destruction is clear to see from the news page photo Geoff:( Awful that some idiots would do such a thing.
If caught they should be named and shamed regardless of age and made to pay for a replacement somehow.
Do you have any idea how much it will cost to replace? The WG have reported it as being £200k !?! I suspect they may have got that wrong though as you could build a lovely new brick built family home for that much. Maybe they put an extra ‘0’ by mistake and meant £20k. Any idea ?

  3. What makes you think it might be school kids Geoff? Were there any witnesses?
The fire at Mr Smiths was blamed on kids – but they were found to be innocent.
What motives could there be in burning down this viewing platform?

  4. Im a visitor to warrington and risley moss i go walking my girlfriends dog round there and deeply sadened to see the lookout o tower gone so sad
