Speak up for the British Heart Foundation

THE British Heart Foundation is appealing to the Warrington community to give the gift of time and sign up to its volunteering programme to help in the fight for every heartbeat.

Local volunteers are needed to support the nation’s heart charity with its public speaking at events, to help encourage people to fund even more life saving research.

The role of a volunteer speaker involves raising awareness of the BHF in local communities and working with local groups and associations to talk about the work of the charity.

By giving their time to support the BHF, volunteers also have the opportunity to build, develop and learn new skills and gain valuable experience while doing something amazing in the fight against heart disease.

Every three minutes someone loses their life to heart and circulatory disease which devastates the lives of those they leave behind.  Thanks to the public’s generosity, the BHF is funding research central to discovering vital treatments for people living with these conditions.
Chris Connor is a volunteer speaker in the Warrington area and has been volunteering with the BHF for six years.

Chris said “I had a cardiac arrest in October 2008 and without the skills of people nearby knowing CPR and the speedy response of Warrington Ambulance Service I very much doubt that I would still be alive today. I started volunteering with the BHF because I wanted to use my time to support the amazing work they do and raise awareness in my local area”

Leah Goodhind, BHF fundraising manager for Cheshire said: “Volunteers are absolutely integral to the success of BHF and play a vital part in helping us support more people affected by heart and circulatory conditions.

“Volunteering for our public speaking team can help you build relationships within your community whilst helping support our life saving research in the fight against heart disease. We appreciate every minute people can spare and hope that in return our volunteers gain a lot from working with us.”
