Tackling loneliness in Warrington

0

AN initiative to tackle loneliness has been launched in Warrington.
The borough council is working in partnership with Age UK Mid Mersey to help tackle  the problem – and will invite people to “Start a conversation”  at the Pyramid Arts Centre,  on Monday  July 3 at 12 noon.
Loneliness and isolation are not an inevitable part of growing older but as people age they may become increasingly isolated for many reasons. This may be due to bereavement, ill health, a rift in the family, fall out with friends or issues at work which can have devastating consequences on an individual’s health and wellbeing.
Cllr Pat Wright, the council’s lead member for adult social care, said: “It’s clear that loneliness can affect us all at any stage of life but older people are particularly at risk simply because they are more likely to experience deteriorating health and the death of a loved one.
“We firmly believe that if we all come together we genuinely stand a chance of tackling the loneliness that devastates the lives of so many.”
The event will bring organisations and the community together to help tackle loneliness across the borough.
Places are limited so places need to be booked by contacting Andrea at [email protected] or call 01744 752 644.
Lunch will be provided and for any bakers out there please bring along a creation for a cake competition!
