VIDEO: Adam White, a former Bridgewater High School and Priestley College student from Warrington was locked in a glass box for 50 hours in order to raise awareness of autism and funds for charity.

Adam was locked in a 3mx2m box in the foyer of a Tesco store for three days and nights, raising more than £2,500 for charity Caudwell Children which supports young people with autism.

Adam is the director of Landscape Architects, Davies White Ltd and is the youngest son of Paul and Susan White former owners of Whites Sports Shop which is still officially the ‘World’s Oldest Sports Shop’.

The 44-year-old spent time cycling and designing while in the box, he said that he missed his girlfriend, their cat Milly and simply being outdoors in the fresh air whilst locked up in the box which took place from 6pm on Monday to 8pm on the Wednesday.

Adam said: “I kept myself amused during my self-imposed solitary confinement by cycling almost 400 miles and making a scale model of our Zoflora & Caudwell Children’s Wild Garden for the RHS Hampton Court Show Garden which takes place during the first week of July. After the show the garden will be recreated at the new Caudwell International Children’s Centre at Keele University in Staffordshire.

Caudwell Children support children and families with disability and in particular Autism. Having worked with the children whilst designing the show garden I wanted to do more to help improve the understanding of autism and raise some much needed funds (the charities founder John Caudwell covers all the running cost so any money raised goes directly to the children).

Agreeing to go inside the glass box was the perfect opportunity to show my support.’’
