THE Walton Lea Partnership are going back to their roots focusing on growing traditional and heritage plants and produce.

Based at the former Victorian walled garden next to Walton Hall and Gardens off Chester Road, the charity is also looking for experienced gardeners who are willing to give up their time and giving talks on gardening styles and horticulture.

Head of Horticulture and Fundraising and Community Outreach Julie Groom said: “We are looking at growing a variety of traditional herbs, beans, sweet peas and roses so people can come along and learn about plants and produce which were popular during Victorian times.

“We are taking on more volunteers and would love to hear from keen gardeners who can give up some time to come and give talks.”

A new role as been created at the charity with Andrea Marshall becoming Garden Lead.

“We would love to hear from people who can come along and share their experiences,” said Andrea.

“We are aiming to be more traditional and are looking at creating a “Dig for Victory” garden as well as looking at other historical projects.”

The aim is to make the walled garden an even better visitor attraction.

This year there will also be a big push on sun flowers and an increase in plant sales.
“This is going to be a very exciting year for us,” added Julie.

Anyone interested in helping out with talks or advice should call 01925 860145 or message the charity through their facebook page.
