A WOMAN has died in a fire at a ground floor flat at Warrington.
The blaze was in Ashley Close, Grappenhall, shortly after 9pm last night and is now being investigated by Cheshire Police. But it is not believed there were any suspicious circumstances.
Fire engines from Warrington, Stockton Heath, Birchwood and Penketh went to the scene.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the smoke-filled building after receiving reports there was someone inside.
They quickly located a woman in a bedroom but, sadly, she was confirmed dead at the scene.
The blaze was extinguished with a hose reel get and a ventilation unit was used to clear smoke from the property.
Crews were at the scene for more than four hours.
The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.
