Yellows must wait for first outing of 2017

WARRINGTON Town see themselves in the midst of an enforced winter break following a spate of postponements in recent weeks.

The Yellows saw both their home games over the Christmas period – against Spennymoor Town and Marine – called off due to a frozen pitch, while they will be out of action this week too due to Stourbridge’s FA Cup exploits.

Since the abandoned home game against Stafford Rangers on Saturday 17th December, due to fog, the Yellows have managed just one game – a 2-1 away reversal at Ashton United.

As a result, by the time they are next due to be in action, against Corby on Saturday 14th January, Warrington will have played (and completed a game) just once in 35 days.

It has at least enabled Warrington to gain a true feel of the task they have ahead of themselves in the New Year.

Thanks to early cup exits and the good quality surface at Cantilever Park, the Yellows had played more games than virtually every other team in the Evo-Stik Premier League.

They have now dropped to 14th in the table, seven points off the play-off places, with 63 points still to play for.

Warrington’s next two games are against the current bottom two of the table – Corby away on Saturday week, before a local derby against Skelmersdale (Jan 21st), who hammered the Yellows 4-0 in the reverse fixture.

The Yellows then welcome Tranmere for a Cheshire Senior Cup match (Jan 24th), before a trip to title-chasing Buxton on January 28th.

At present, the Marine, Spennymoor and Stafford home games all remain without a new date.
