The charity, based on Allen Street, provides care and support services all over the country, from residential care to respite services, carer support and specialist dementia care.

Head office-based Rachel Yates heads up Making Space’s dementia team across the UK and took home the Dignity in Care Award. It is her lead that guarantees best practice dementia care is in place in every service operated by the charity, from residential care, to home support, community groups, activities and awareness training.
Honor Simpson leads Derby City Dementia Support Service for the charity, handling a team of five staff and 20 volunteers who deliver a range of services including dementia support workers, carer support, respite, activity sessions and awareness training. She was named Dementia Carer of the Year.

On presenting Rachel with the Dignity in Care award, an awards spokesperson said: “Rachel demonstrated a real commitment to dignity and promoting it within her organisation through her role as a dignity champion.
“The judges were impressed by her knowledge and passion as well as her recognition that people should be supported to achieve their dreams no matter how other may perceive them.”

Rachel Yates, dementia development coordinator for Making Space’s Dementia Space Team, said: “I am truly honoured to have received the award. It really means a lot to me. I am very grateful to work with some amazing people who have inspired me to make a difference”.
