Ladies golf club crowned National Champions

A ladies golf club based at Culcheth have been crowned National Champions in Spain!

The Culcheth basedLeigh Golf Club ladies were one of four Ladies Golf Clubs that reached the National Finals in Spain by coming through nine rounds of the Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic.

Following a close semi-final match with Burntisland Golf House, which saw a victory for Leigh 3.5 – 1.5; Leigh moved into the final on the second days play to face the other semi-finalist winners Bude and North Cornwall.

Leigh teed off first and their five team players all teed off strongly and demonstrated the great team spirit which had been with them through every round to bring home a win 4 – 1.

Recognition is also owed to other club players who contributed to this achievement through the previous rounds.

The Leigh teams 7 players included Team Captain Mhairi Ferrol, Nikki Martin, Rachel Higson, Heather Pirrie, Joanne Lennox Warburton, Penny Moorfield and Tracey Sherwood who were all part of the success over the nine rounds.
