WARRINGTON based “The Cat Radio” – the University of Chester’s student radio station has added another student radio award to its ever- growing collection.
The Cat Radio took the silver award in the prestigious “Best Student Radio Chart Show” category, which was announced at an awards ceremony at the O2 in London.
Third year Radio Production student, Tommie Watts was also a finalist in the “Best Male” category.
The Cat’s radio chart show has featured, among other things, an exclusive interview with the chart-topping band The 1975. During the year the station also featured interviews with 90s pop star Chesney Hawkes and Viola Beach, who had also performed on air.
This recognition is the latest in a series of nominations and awards for The Cat Radio. Earlier this year, the station received the “Student Radio Award for the Best Training Initiative” in the Student Radio Association Awards, and two nominations in the Jerusalem Awards, for the best radio strand and the under-25s categories. The Cat also won the silver award for Best Student Radio Chart Show two years ago.
BA Radio Production programme leader Michelle Ponting said: “This is fantastic news for the students and we are extremely pleased that the radio station has received another national award. It’s great to see the Cat Radio being recognised in this way.”
Head of Media at the university Dr Alec Charles added: “This is more brilliant news from our radio station. I’m almost starting to lose count of the number of nominations and awards our students and graduates have won in the last couple of years!”
