A SHOPLIFTER who tried to make a quick getaway from a store on his pedal cycle came to an abrupt halt as he flew head over heels over a security gate.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras at the Warrington Go Outdoors store on Wilson Patten Street.

The offender had stolen a pair of boots to the value of £300 and boarded his pedal cycle in order to make good his getaway whilst still in the shop.

However, he did not allow for the sturdy design of the wooden gates near to the tills.

He crashed into them at high speed and was sent flying over the handlebars, into the foyer of the store.

Staff at Go Outdoors kept their heads and detained the male until police arrival.
Police, who have congratulated staff for their professionalism attended and arrested him.

This week Michael Stockton, aged 40, of Parr, St Helens pleaded guilty to theft and criminal damage at North Cheshire Magistrates Court, where he was fined.
