Have your say on Warrington’s Local Plan

The leader of Warrington Borough Council is urging local people to air their views over the 20-year growth plans for the borough.

Consultation is officially under way on Warrington’s Local Plan Review. Cllr Terry O’Neill is encouraging local people to get fully engaged in the development of the plan, which aims to provide the housing, business, jobs and infrastructure the borough needs over the next two decades.

If Warrington is to meets its development needs and aspirations to become a ‘New City’, then evidence gathered by the council is suggesting that around 20,000 new homes and a total of 363 hectares of land for business and employment will be required by 2037.

Cllr O’Neill said: “Our Local Plan will be hugely influential in shaping Warrington’s future. Everyone who lives and works here will be affected by the Plan and what it sets out to achieve – which is a more prosperous future for our borough. That’s why it’s vital you have your say.

“The public consultation gives us the opportunity to listen to people’s opinions, take on board different views and explore all the options for the delivery of the new homes and jobs we need.

“All of your contributions will feed into our final Local Plan document, which will include specific sites for development. So it’s important that you get involved at this stage.”

The six-week public consultation period will give everyone – from residents and land owners, to developers and other stakeholders – the chance to have their say.

This includes a ‘Call for Sites’, with people being asked to air their views on locations – urban and Green Belt – where development should happen, sites which should not be developed, and areas which should be developed carefully.

You can get involved in this round of consultation by visiting www.warrington.gov.uk, typing ‘planning policy’ into the search box, then clicking on the ‘Local Plan Review’ icon. Here, you will also find the Public Consultation and Engagement Statement, produced by the council.

You can also view the consultation documentation at the reception at New Town House, Buttermarket Street, the Customer Contact Centre on Horsemarket Street, or electronically at all local libraries.

The initial public consultation closes on Monday 5th December 2016. Following this, the council will put forward its preferred development options, next summer. Further public consultations will be held at this stage.

  1. If terry oneil wants Warrington to be a city then tell him find land more suitable than peel hall. The roads in orford area ie poplars ave Cotswold road winwick rd to name a few won’t handle the amount of traffic this building would cause. Winwick rd is already a nightmare in and out of town centre and that’s before the new shops all open on the old fiat site. Already takes me 45 minutes to get home from work in town at 5pm , I live in newhaven rd. If the planning of peel hall goes ahead that’s 15 years of noise from the site building work. Plus if plans are correct that’s the entrance to the site at the top of my street causing poplars age to be more of a nightmare to drive down than it is now, parked cars everywhere. buses learner drivers all use poplars ave it’s horrendous to drive down without added heavy goods vehicles if planning goes ahead then cars when it’s completed. I’m completely against this idea as its green belt land. I suggest they go find some land that’s not going to cause an already traffic congested area of Warrington and build there. Saying that I already know it’s a done deal and nothing anyone will say who already live in this area will stop this development
