VISITORS to a special weekend event at Warrington will be able to see what life was like at the former US air base at Burtonwood from 1940 to 1993.
The “Stars and Stripes” weekend is being organised by the Burtonwood Association at Gulliver’s World.
It will be open from 10.30am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday and, in addition to turning back the clock to the days when Burtonwood was the biggest military base in Europe it will offer a showcase to Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Coast Guard and other organisations.
There will be classic cards, stylish vintage stalls, military vehicles, living history groups, music and dancing.
The Warrington-based Museum of Policing will be putting on displays, as will the Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum.
The whole event is a tribute to those who served at Burtonwood during the war and afterwards – and to today’s emergency services.
