HUNDREDS of students across Warrington were today celebrating their GCSE results.

Lymm High School was delighted to report a further improvement in the headline figure, with 76% of students achieving five or more grades A*-C including English and Maths and a very strong Ebacc score of 38%. Within these results, we are especially pleased to see a significant improvement in the performance of students eligible for the Pupil Premium, something that has been a key priority for us. When national data is released later this year, we also expect to have performed very well on the new ‘Progress 8’ measure.

So many students have performed exceptionally well at the top end, with almost 60% achieving at least 1 A*/A grade and 27% achieving 5 or more A*/A grades.

Those deserving a special mention for achieving at least five A* grades were: William Caldwell, William Catlow, Ben Corrigan, Elizabeth Coy, Jack Evans, Rory Foster, Joseph Hassall, Molly Horne, Pip Hyde, Liam Johnson, Rebecca King, Sian Lakey, Alex Lee, Hannah Leighton-Jones, Elena Rurlander, Pavan Sidhu, Ellen Thomas and Matthew Warren.

The Languages department should also be applauded for a truly exceptional set of results: over 95% of students gained A*-C grades in French, German and Spanish, with around 50% in each of the three languages scoring A* or A grades.

Headteacher, Gwyn Williams said: “We are extremely proud of every single one of our students and are delighted to see so many of them achieving so highly today. Watching them celebrate with their parents and teachers this morning has been wonderful. It has been a real team effort and I want to thank everybody involved for all their hard work and commitment. Taken together with last week’s excellent set of A’level results, it has been a great few days for the school and reinforces the feeling that we are going from strength to strength at the moment”

Meanwhile at Great Sankey High student Joe Worthington said: “I have been smiling so much my mouth is hurting”.

There was a lot of smiling going on at the school as students collected their GCSE results.
The school saw their headline figures of 75 per cent of students achieving five or more A*-C grades and 70 per cent achieving five or more A*-C including English and Maths – a further improvement on
previous years.

Executive head Jon Wright said: “We are really happy that as a school we have bucked the national trend for top grades with many of our students still achieving those top grades. One in 10 of Great Sankey students achieved eikght or more A* grades.”

Head teacher Paula Crawley added: “We are thrilled that 100 per cent of the cohort all achieved at least one qualification and that our average grade was C+. Nationally six per cent of students achieved A* but we saw over half of our students achieve at least 1 A* grade.”

Students are now eagerly looking forward to starting their next courses and their apprenticeships. Most will stay on at Barrow Hall College – the schools own sixth form.

At Culcheth High School, finance and business manager Katie Cunningham said: “On behalf of the staff and governors, I would like to congratulate our Year 11 students on their amazing GCSE exam results.

“There have been some excellent individual performances which reflect the hard work of the students in their GCSE studies; I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students for their efforts and wish them all the very best in their next steps. We are delighted and very proud of our students’ achievements and I would like to thank all the staff for their dedication, hard work and guidance for our students which has supported this level of achievement.

“Finally, a big thank you to all the parents and guardians who have supported the students and school to help our young people achieve this level of success in their GCSE examinations.
Seventy eight per cent of students achieved five A*- C including English and Mathematics which is just one per cent under the school record set in 2013 and an improvement of 16 per cent on last year’s figure.
Given the changes to education, assessment and examinations since 2013, it makes this year’s results even more pleasing, she added.
