Woman sexually assaulted on train at Birchwood

BRITISH Transport police have issued CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to following a sexual assault which took place on a train as it approached Birchwood, Warrington.

The incident took place on Wednesday, 22 June, at 10.20pm.

PC Michael Woodward said: “The victim felt uncomfortable when she noticed a man watching her. Later in the journey he moved seats to sit next to her before she eventually fell asleep.

“As the train was approaching Birchwood station she awoke to find the man stroking her leg.

“The train was the 9.09pm Trans Pennine service from Leeds to Liverpool Lime Street. The man was already on the train when the victim boarded at Leeds. He left the train at Birchwood before boarding the 10.40pm train to Manchester.”

After reviewing CCTV, officers are today issuing images of a man they want to speak to about the incident.

“I believe the man in the images has information about this incident. Who is he?” added PC Woodward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference 224 of 18/08/16 Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  1. I agree Indy, the picture quality is useless.
    In this day and age when there is a need for good security in public places such as rail stations it should be an offence not to have ‘fit for purpose’ CCTV.
