MEMBERS of Northern Ireland based Crewe United FC visited Warrington Peace Centre today (Friday) to kick off their visit to the town to compete for the Peace Cup.

They were given a tour of the facility by “Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace” fund-raiser Jonathan Levy, who outlined the history of the facility built as a living memorial to the two youngsters, who died following the IRA bomb attack on the town in 1993.Timjonathanlogo CIRCLE.jpg

Following a civic engagement at the town hall this evening, the Lisburn team will visit Cantilever Park tomorrow in the latest round of the annual Peace Cup, which was first competed for shortly after the Warrington bombing and resurrected about a decade ago on an annual basis.

The civic event, hosted by Mayor Faisal Rashid, also marks Warrington Town’s league success last season which saw them promoted to Evo Stik Premier Division.

A young Warrington Town team lost out 3-2 to Crewe United when they visited Northern Ireland last year, after previously winning the trophy 10-0 in 2014.

Tomorrow Warrington will be fielding a team packed with local talent as they bid to bring the Peace Cup home. The game kicks off at 3pm and admission is FREE.

Crewe United were the first Northern Ireland group to visit Warrington following the 1993 bombing which claimed the lives of 12-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Johnathan Ball.

The annual Peace Cup was instigated by Warrington councillor Mike Hannon.
