A NOSTALGIC event at the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester – the former Padgate College site – has sparked an appeal to help form a permanent collection of memorabilia from the old college’s history.
Former staff and students from the then Padgate College were invited to attend a “Memory Lane” event at the campus and the evening resulted in a number of historic artefacts being donated to the university’s archives.
Among them was a 65-year-old college blazer and scarf donated by Mrs Gwenyth Altmann – a teaching student from 1949–1951.
The event was organised by the university’s Alumni and Development Office and hosted by the last principal of Padgate College of Education, Hilary Tucker.
She and other alumni from the last 70 years shared their memories, photographs and recollections of life at the college.
Alumni and development manager Fiona Roberts said: “We felt most privileged to meet those who attended the event, and to hear such inspiring stories from the past, learning more about the history of the institution and the people connected to it.
“Keeping these connections is so important as we build our archive, and we are grateful to everyone who has donated photos, documents and other items.
“We would love to create a permanent collection of college or university related memorabilia at the Warrington Campus and would be grateful to anyone who was perhaps unable to attend the event, but would like to donate items which may be gathering dust in the loft or garage, to the archive.”
Any former student or staff member at the college who would like to donate an item of memorabilia to the archive should contact Fiona Roberts on [email protected] or telephone: 01244 511078.
