THE sixth annual Warrington Mela takes place this Sunday – and organisers are welcoming everyone.
Once again at Palmyra Square, the event, will feature entertainment from around the world as well as a chance to attend lectures on culture and mental health.
A street procession will leave the Town Hall at about 11.15am and then the event will be officially opened by the Mayor, Cllr Faisal Rashid.
He said: “The event celebrates diversity in the town and brings communities together, while giving people the chance to showcase their individual cultures.
“In the last five years our population of ethnic minorities has increased so it is important to stage these type of events to bring people together and improve community cohesion.
“I want to thank Warrington Ethnic Communities Association and their partners for their work. The council has been great and has provided key funding for the event.
“Now I just hope the weather is good as I think that will encourage more people to come along.”
About 500 people attended the first Mela five years ago – but last year the figure was around 3,000.

*Mela is a word of Indian origin which means gathering or festival
