A WARRINGTON school previously placed in special measures and rated as “inadequate” has now been rated as “good” by Ofsted.
The education watchdog says all aspects of St Augustine’s RC Primary, Latchford – leadership, quality of teaching, behaviour, outcomes and early years provision – are now good.
Staff and pupils are celebrating – and Warrington Borough Council has sent its congratulations to the Henshall Avenue school.
The Ofsted report said: “The head teacher and deputy head teacher have been relentless in eradicating underperformance across the school. As a result, both the quality of teaching and pupils’ achievement have greatly improved since the previous inspection.
“Pupils enjoy coming to school. They like their teachers and are enthusiastic about their learning. Pupils are kind, co-operative and courteous to one another. Parents say that their children are safe and well cared for.
“Pupils are keen to help those less fortunate than themselves. They regularly raise money for and make donations to local and international charities.”
Cllr Jean Carter, the council’s lead member for children’s services (pictured), said: “This grading is the result of the dedication and hard work of the head, staff and children at St Augustine’s and they should all be very proud.
“In Warrington 96 per cent of our primary schools are good or outstanding – which is an excellent achievement.”
St Augustine’s head Andrea Towey said: “It has been a real team effort and everyone involved has worked really hard. It is the first time that the school has received a ‘good’ grading from Ofsted and we are delighted to have achieved this.
“We are particularly pleased that the inspectors recognised the high expectations that we have at the school and that we have a school which staff, parents and pupils are proud to be part of.”
