TWO Warrington men were part of a group people who visited the House of Lords to mark the launch of a new children’s charity.
Peer Power is a social justice charity rooted in the promotion of empathy, supporting children and young people who are often excluded and not heard in society.
The two Warrington men in the party were Sean Creaney, from Bewsey, a parent governor at a primary school in the town and Gareth Jones, head of service at Warrington Youth Offending Team and a director of the charity.
Aim of the charity is to help to improve emotional health and well-being for vulnerable young people by empowering them to speak out.
It also helps vulnerable children and their workers to develop strong and trusted relationships.
Sean said: “At Peer Power we passionately promote children’s voices throughout both care and justice systems.
“It was very exciting to be involved in the launch of our charity at the House of Lords.”
Charity founder Adnne-Marie Douglas, also from Warrington, said: “Recent abuse of young people in Medway Secure Training Centre has revealed that often young people with adverse childhood experiences are not listened to.
“Peer Power is here to plug that gap.
“We know that it is possible to harness the potential of young people who have suffered trauma, neglect, abuse and crime by providing support and building trusting relation-ships, helping services to improve and enabling the young people to contribute positively to society.
“By instilling empathy, listening and taking real action we can tackle on-going institutional abuses of children in our care.”
