Relocation of GP Out of Hours in Warrington

2

NHS Warrington CCG is holding an 8 week public consultation from Monday (June 8) on proposed changes to the location of the GP Out of Hours service in Warrington.

The proposed change will see GP Out of Hours relocate from Warrington Hospital to the Bath Street Health and Wellbeing Centre.

Bath Street Health and Wellbeing Centre is an NHS facility located in Warrington town centre, providing modern state of the art accommodation for the service and the local population.

The town centre location is easily accessible, serviced by Warrington’s main bus routes and has free parking and disabled bays on site.

NHS Warrington CCG would like to hear residents’ views about the proposed change.

A spokesperson said: “Your opinions matters to us and you could make a difference to the decision-making process.”

  1. It is great to see better utilisation, of what is an excellent building. Maybe the NHS needs to look to the past, and consider using it, as what were in the past known as “cottage hospitals”, and thereby taking some of the pressure off the general hospital. One of the problems with the NHS is a failure to use its assets to their full potential, and therefore not getting best value from the £120 billion pa. that it costs the taxpayer.

  2. We’ve only been to the out of hours GP service at the hospital twice since it moved there and it was as easy and very good just as it used to be at Garven Place (we went there more often over the years). I don’t really mind where it is as long as it’s open and there is parking available should we ever be unfortunate enough to need it again.

I do wonder though that if there is a requirement for a GP and a nurse or two to be there out of hours every night that if they were still based at the hospital the GP/nurses could also help attend to other patients at the hospital in A&E for example when there are no patents booked into the out of hours service rather than them just sitting there all night not doing a lot at another location. I say ‘not booked in’ as you can only attend out of hours service with an appointment.
