SIR Thomas Boteler Church of England High School’s Music Department have been awarded a Bronze Award for their excellence in music after more than 10 per cent of pupils secured an A* to C grade in GCSE Music.

Students have opportunities to play and perform a wide range of instruments at the school, including guitar, keyboard, djembe and steel drums.

The school was ranked 358th in the country for its music grades by the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

Students have performed at Chester Cathedral, Parr Hall and as part of the Olympic torch tour in 2012.

The Music Department have recently teamed up with the Drama Department to showcase the Boteler Blues Brothers, which ran for two nights  on the 26th and 27th April and was enjoyed by staff, parents, students and many members of the community.

Headteacher Beverly Scott-Herron, says of Boteler Music teachers Annette Clarke and Lisa Butcher: “The music department would be nothing without these two leaders – they are the heart of everything that happens here.”
