TOWN Hall planning bosses have rubber-stamped proposals for the multi-million £ Bridge Street re-development scheme.
The project, which includes a new 2,500 seat town centre cinema and a brand new market building, was approved by the borough council’s development committee
A new public square, offering a setting for various outdoor events, new council offices and a number of restaurants and retail promises are also envisaged.
Plans for a new multi-storey car park and a temporary market building to be used while the new facility is being built, had been approved earlier.
A number of listed buildings on Bridge Street will have to make way for the development – but the distinctive façade of the old Boots store will be retained to provide the front of the new market.
The project could be completed before the end of next year.
