TUSC name team of six for council elections

THE Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) has named a six-strong team to fight the borough council elections at Warrington on May 5.
Led by former Labour rebel Kevin Bennett  (pictured)– a sitting councillor in Fairfield and Howley ward – they will be fighting on an anti-austerity platford.
Cllr Bennett said: “Residents deserve a strong, challenging voice on the
council, especially as pressures continue to be put onto services such as support for vulnerable adults, children’s social care and youth services. I have been involved in lobbying the council on many occasions, to put pressure on them to think again about these unnecessary cuts”.
Other members of the team are:
Bob Taylor, for Poulton South ward:
He said: “In the Bruche by-election I scored 10 per cent of the vote. I am standing again because I firmly believe that only TUSC has the policies needed by the people of Warrington”.
Sue Hayes, for Latchford East ward:
“Residents deserve far better than what the ‘main’ parties offer. TUSC councillors will stand up for residents and demand improvements, not toe a self-interested ‘party line’”.
Shelley Bennett, for Bewsey Whitecross ward:
“Senior councillors adding £34,000 to increase councillor’s allowances, at a time of ‘austerity’ is a disgrace. Why is it one rule for them and another for everyone else? TUSC wants to derail the ‘gravy train’”!
Andy Ford, for Great Sankey South ward:
“As a trade unionist in the NHS, I see how privatisation and cuts are hitting patients and staff. TUSC opposes all of this; we want services to be brought back in-house”.
Dave Cundy, for Latchford West ward:
“Labour locally is the ‘New Labour’ of Tony Blair. Seeing Kevin Bennett in the news led me to join TUSC. I’m taking ‘old Labour’ values into these elections”.
TUSC is also running candidates in some of the parish council elections.
