BRITISH crime-writer Ann Cleeves, who has seen her work turned into TV drama series, visited Woolston Neighbourhood Hub Library this week.

More than 50 people turned out to hear from the author of the book Vera Stanhope and the Shetland novels, which have been turned into the hit ITV and BBC dramas Vera and Shetland.

She also launched her new quick read book, Too Good to be True at the event, which was released for sale just last week. The book features Jimmy Perez from the Shetland series and was available to purchase throughout the event.

Ann said: “I am delighted to have written my first Galaxy quick read book, Too Good To Be True. Quick reads are a great way to bring people back to reading and also act as a good stepping stone to reading full length novels.

“Writing a quick read is also a good experience for an author as you’re only able to include a limited amount of words so it makes you think what’s important as a writer.”

Fans of the author were also given the opportunity to have their favourite novels signed by Ann and find out more about how libraries were responsible for her success as a writer.

The author, who lives in the North East, has had a successful career and in 2006 she was the first winner of the prestigious Duncan Lawrie Dagger Award of the Crime Writers’ Association for her novel Raven Black, the first volume of her Shetland Quartet.

She was also admitted to the Crime Thriller Hall of Fame in 2012 – alongside such all-time greats as Colin Dexter, Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle.

Chris Everett, Senior LiveWire Advisor for Reading, added: “It was fantastic to welcome the much-loved author Ann Cleeves to Warrington and to hear all about her fascinating career and what inspires her as an author.”
