Updated -Warrington flood warnings in place

4

UPDATED: THE Environment Agency have a number of flood warnings in place at Warrington following heavy rainfall which has caused localised flooding problems with police warning people to keep away from Latchford Locks.

Footpaths have been closed near Latchford Locks and police are advising people to stay away from the area and not to walk through flood waters as they are often deeper than they look..

Northway and Densham Avenue at Orford were closed along with Pool Lane at Lymm and there have also been reports of flooding at Lasky Lane and Lymm Road in Thelwall.

Flood warnings are also in place for the Mersey Walk area, Mort Avenue and Bridgewater Avenue.

Dan Warren sent in this photo of Northway, Orford, earlier today and the water levels at Latchford Locks are reported to be high, although the Environment Agency have not posted any at risk warnings for the area. The high levels have been caused by the River Irwell bursting its banks. Areas including Newman High School, Brook Ave, Davenport Ave, Waring Ave, Bryant Ave, Bowman Ave and Mort Ave are at risk of flooding from the Estuary due to high tide.

Other areas at risk are Sankey Brook at Gemini, including commercial and retail property off Europa Boulevard at Gemini Industrial Park. Additional properties at risk include parts of Fairbourne close.

Also at risk is Sankey Brook at Dallam. Areas at risk include Chepstow close, Colwyn Close, properties on and around Higham Ave, Tavlin Ave, Hodgkinson ave, Marshall Ave, Hawleys Lane and Mullen close.

Anyone concerned about potential flooding should call the Environment Agency Flood Line on 0345 988 1188.

  1. Blimey I didn’t even know it had rained other than a bit today. Manchester Ship Canal was higher than normal and flowing pretty fast at Stockton Heath early afternoon today but I’ve seen it much much higher in the past so never gave it a second thought. Wonder why they didn’t open the sluices at Latchford Locks to let more water through if the other side was overflowing like the pics show. As for Densham Ave and Northway flooding was that down to blocked road grids as they aren’t near any waterways are they ?

    • The gates have been open full but the amount of water coming to the locks was to much even for them to cope with, that’s why the water went over the top of the locks itself. Stockton Heath end won’t be high anyway because that is the other side of the locks!!!!!

      • Thanks. I know SH is the other side of the locks but was worried all the water might come flooding through and affect this side too as the police heli etc were apparently over this way for a bit looking. I went out an hour ago and the MSC is high and fast flowing but still nowhere near as high as I’ve seen it in the past this side so I guess there’s no threat of flooding here. Hope everyone else is ok too.

When will people realise that big business only has one purpose…profit, profit and…more profit, and everything else can go to hell – just where we are all now heading.
