THE swimming pool at Woolston Neighbourhood Hub is to close for about five months while a £1.1 million improvement takes place.
Warrington Borough Council has agreed to invest the money from its capital programme to improve the facility, run by LiveWire.
The cash boost will enable LiveWire to carry out much needed repairs to heating systems, the plant room and pipes under the swimming pool – and the results will directly benefit customers.
But for the refurbishment to take place, the pool will be closed from Monday November 16 for about five months.
Existing customers have been offered alternative swim sessions at neighbouring LiveWire leisure sites.
Cllr Kate Hannon , the borough council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, said: “We have ambitious plans to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents. If we are to encourage people to have happy, healthy lifestyles it is important that we invest
and improve our facilities so we can encourage more people of all ages and abilities to take up sports or physical activity.
“Investment from our capital programme in Woolston Hub will make a huge difference to the leisure services available and in turn will have a positive impact on people’s lives.”
Vicky Dunning, LiveWire’s strategic lead for leisure facilities, said: “Inevitably with such a major essential investment, the pool will have to close for as short time as possible to carry out the work to ensure the facilities are futureproofed.
“The improvement works will benefit our customers and will reduce the
building’s carbon emissions. We appreciate everyone’s co-operation and patience while we carry out these improvement works and every effort has been made to minimise disruption.”
LiveWire customers will receive notification of changes to swim sessions and staff are happy to help with any questions or information about alternative sessions.
