A LEADING sports journalist will share his expertise to inspire the writers of the future as part of the media department at the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester.
David Maddock, the Daily Mirror’s “football man in Merseyside”, has joined the team at the Padgate campus this term.
He will continue to report for The Daily Mirror, but will now also spend his Mondays teaching on the department’s BA Sports Journalism programme.
Since 1999 David has been at the Daily Mirror, where he works as chief northern sports correspondent. He has previously worked as northern sports correspondent for The Times, sports reporter and sub editor for the Daily Star, and sports editor for the Manchester Evening News.
He said: “I’m really excited to be invited to work with the media department at the University of Chester, and am grateful for the opportunity to join the flourishing sports journalism programme.
“I hope to be able, in some small way, to add to the reputation and success of an innovative course and enhance the learning experience of the students, by passing on the knowledge of my 30 years in the industry.”
Dr Alec Charles, head of media at the university, added: “It’s such a great pleasure having David on board our sports journalism team. David is not only a highly successful journalist but also a brilliant communicator – and of course he has the job that so many of our students want!”
