WARRINGTON’s education chief has congratulated the town’s students for another year of highly successful A Level results.

Cllr Jean Carter (pictured), the borough council’s lead member for children and young people’s services said: “We should congratulate young people from across Warrington on their outstanding achievement.

This is the outcome of two years hard study supported by the staff within our schools and colleges, and parents and carers who continue to support and challenge young people to do their best.

“Our results indicate that Warrington continues to be a borough where the very highest quality of education is provided and we wish all our students the best of luck for the future.”

Initial results from Warrington schools and colleges show that  A-level results have improved on last year bucking the national trend where there has been a decline in the top grades.

Across Warrington schools and colleges 16.6 per cent achieved A*-A grades – up from 16 per cent last year, and 7.7 per cent achieved 3 A*- A grades compared with 5.6 per cent last year.

The good news  continues with real improvements in results for Maths and Science subjects.

The overall percentage of A*-E passes is 99.9 per cent, above the national pass rate of 98.1 per cent with 70.7 per cent achieving A*-C grades, which is in line with last year.
